Beach Bailout: Why is the US funding N.J sand replenishment?
It’s safe to say that many voters across the country are completely tired of government bailouts. The government is constantly raising taxes for special projects that we have no say over. If you or someone you know has a home or a business in New Jersey, you might feel differently because New Jersey’s political leaders are pressing the White House’s office of Management and Budget, to spend hundreds of millions of tax dollars to subsidize sand-replenishing projects.
Beach erosion has been a leading cause of the shrinkage of the New Jersey shore beaches. New Jersey has received about $450 million to pump sand along the coast since 1985. Federal tax dollars are representing about 65% of all the money spent replenishing sand in New Jersey. So, if you live in Pennsylvania or Texas you are supporting beach erosion projects in Ocean City and Beach Haven. Many people are angry that their tax dollars are being wasted. Whenever a storm hits, another chunk of the beach is lost. Isn’t there some other plan that can be implemented that would save the voters tax dollars?
Do you agree or disagree with government funding for the New Jersey beaches?

Hey, nice post, very well written. You should post more about this.
We need our beaches!! The United States has beautiful coastlines. I can understand many tax payers who have never had the chance to visit the coast to think that it may not be important to save the beaches, but imagine what would happen to many tourist destinations if the beaches dissappeared. I’m all for Saving our Sand, even though I may only visit one a year. =)
How long will the beaches last after the sand replenishment stimulus/bailout is gone?
Pretty cool post. I just came across your site and wanted to say
that I have really enjoyed reading your posts. Any way
I’ll be subscribing to your blog and I hope you write again soon!
As a former resident of NJ, and beach lover, I have to support them any way possible. NJ provides some of the most beautiful beaches on the continent and even if you don’t love the beach, the boardwalks, casinos, zoos and lighthouses would all suffer as a result of loss of tourism due to fewer beaches. Businesses would suffer severely and life in general as a resident would have fall backs due to lack of beaches. Eventually, other surrounding states would fell the effects of that as well…. Think about that
When I first read this I was on the fence. But, no after thinking about it, I would have to favor replenishing NJ beaches. It reminds me of the Martin Niemoller poem. If you don’t speak up and help, no one will be left to help you in the end. We need to help each other when we have the chance.
Man, I love the arrangement of your web page and I am going to try a similiar layout on mine. Do you have any design tips? Please PM ME on yahoo @ tinaLovesYou
