Going Green

Sundance Vacations and Travel Advantage Network have both exhibited their commitment to philanthropy. Next, they turn their attention to the environment.  Author, Paul Hawkins writes,  “Business is the only mechanism on the planet today powerful enough to produce the changes necessary to reverse global environmental and social degradation.”

We agree that it is paramount for businesses to be good environmental citizens.  We can show our commitment to our fellow citizens by “going green”.

A green business follows policies, principles, and practices that help improve the quality of life for its employees, customers, and environment. Lorena Andon reports that Travel Advantage Network is moving toward becoming a green business.  “We have formed a team which we call the “Eco Team” and have developed a plan to make efforts toward our goal of becoming eco-friendly.  The plan we have created is not the only action we are taking within our office; we plan to make changes at the properties as well.  We are looking forward to the positive changes and making our world a better place!”

John and Tina Dowd have also been moved to action.  There were no diamonds or chocolates for Tina on Valentine’s day….just trees from the National Arbor Day Foundation.  Over the course of 50 years, each single tree can generate $31,250 of oxygen, provide $62,000 worth of air pollution control, recycle $37,500 worth of water, and control $31,500 worth of soil erosion.  “It was the highest value gift I ever received,” explains Tina Dowd.  “We also installed motion sensitive light switches and compact fluorescent bulbs in our home.”

Earlier this year, Sundance examined the possibility of using recycled paper for the myriads of reports that are printed from the database each day. Unfortunately, the maintenance contract on the copiers would not support this action.  This was a small setback.  However, the Mount Carmel marketing division is blazing the trail for the rest of the offices.  They recycle all cans, bottles and paper.

We salute TAN for their decision to “go green” as both companies continue to look for solutions that are eco-friendly.  Have you been moved to action?  Tell us about it on the corporate blog.

    Hey!!

It’s Databeth from the Tamaqua Nights team. I am 100% in support of taking our office the green route. Even something as simple as recycling our cans sounds like a great idea. And u guys are rite about all of the paper we use in the offices. In tamaqua tho, we do definatley use every bit of paper. Even if we make a mistake, we always use our mistakes as scrap paper. I’m thrilled to know the “green idea” has spread throughout the company…

That was a great idea for a Valentines Day present!! My boyfriend belongs to the National Arbor Day Foundation and he justloves planting trees. With all the industrial improvements that our invironment withstands everyday, it is great to know that there are people out there who are aware of how important it is to take care of the natural environment. Any little extra effort will help. So keep planting trees, be enery efficent, and most of all recycle, recycle, recycle!!

I am all for going green. We already recycle cans, plastic, paper, cardboard and glass. A tree was planted in memory for my mother and another tree was planted in memory of my brother. There are more things that I still need to do to my home and there is no time like the present to start.

That is such a good idea. I will have to think of ideas for around my house to keep green friendly. Maybe my daughter and can plant a tree and will grow with her.

It is a most excellent idea to take our company as green as possible. Currently in the Wilkes-Barre office we recycle our mountains of soda cans and then we pick a worthy charity to give the profits too. There are so many little things that we all can do to help the environment from turning off the water when we brush our teeth and hands to turning a light out when we are done using it. I think that anything that we can do to benefit future generations is well worth the effort.

I think it’s a great idea to take the company the “green route” There are too many people living in this world that don’t care anything about it. There are so many simple things that can be done to conserve, reuse, reduce, and help out the place that we all return to. I do my fair share at home but we haven’t done much in the office. We tried to recycle cans once but we didn’t have much extra space in the office to do it. I will have to go check with our local recycling center and see if we can get some things started here in the Hazleton office.
Everyone should find an area they’re passionate about and do a little something to help out.
My son just donated money to the Blue Ribbon Campaign to buy bed nets for the people in Africa with the malaria threat. He heard the story and was so touched by it that he saved his money instead of running to the ice cream truck every night. He is now recycling our cans at home to get money to buy more. Just proof of what a little understanding can do.

I’m happy to work for a company that tries hard to go green… to quote Kermit the Frog, “it’s not easy being green!” But we are doing all we can!

At the Mount Carmel Office we recyle a variety of things including plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and paper. It’s amazing how much waste would go through to the garbage if we would not recycle these items.
