A key core value among Sundance Vacations employees is to respond to charity. The Sundance Vacations founders lead by example regarding philanthropy. The Dowd family presented a $50,000 donation to the St. Vincent DePaul Kitchen located in Wilkes Barre, Pa. The recession has put pressure on the soup kitchen to feed even more people. They feed 400 hungry individuals and families every day. The kitchen is a favorite local charity among the Sundance Vacations employees who also volunteer some of their time to serve meals to the hungry. According to Inc. magazine Sundance Vacations is the fastest growing travel company in Pennsylvania for 2011.  Sundance Vacations official ranking on the Inc. 500/5000 fastest growing company list was released last week.  The company improved its national rank to 2,917.  This is the third consecutive year that Sundance Vacations has earned a spot on the list which is quite an achievement for any company notwithstanding the current market conditions.  The company’s three year average growth rate was 72%. 

Sundance Vacations President calls the award “bittersweet” citing the economy for what he considers “mediocre” performance. Even though the company is not completely satisfied with its three year growth rate employees are extremely optimistic about the positioning of the company as the recession lifts.

September 1st was the last Thursday night to hang out at the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs with your friends from Sundance Vacations at the Party on the Patio.  The tribute band honoring Garth Brooks -“Fresh Horses” had everyone singing and dancing under the stars. At the commencement of the show, Sundance Vacations randomly selected and announced the evening’s $100 Free Play winner.

Congratulations to Valerie White from Nicholson, PA !  We are still waiting to hear back to see when Valerie can pick up her generous prize!

Then the Party on the Patio’s grand finale was held on Sunday 9/4 to wrap up the summer show series with the spectacular and energetic Michael Jackson Tribute Band, “Who’s Bad”. Many people MOON WALKED over to the Sundance Vacations booth to register for $100 in free play for the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs before the show. Following “Who’s Bad”, Sundance Vacations proudly announced on stage the last lucky Party on the Patio winner for the season.

Congratulations to Dorothy Sikora from Larksville, Pa! Dorothy received her prize immediately following the last set, just before the spectacular firework display!

“Back in Black ” the well known AC/DC cover band really shook things up despite the rain Thursday night at the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Sundance Vacations is helping to heat up the summer at the Mohegan Sun @ Pocono Downs with their weekly $100 Free Play Give Away during “Party on the Patio” on Thursday nights.

Last night the Bon Jovi cover band , “Runaway”, drew in thousands of fans who all had the chance to enter to win this exciting promotion. When the music was over the fun didn’t stop! Sundance Vacations’ randomly selected the lucky winner from all the entries and 105 The River announced the winner’s name from the stage.

Kathleen was not available to pick up her prize after the show. However, she was very surprised when she received the exciting phone call on Friday afternoon. Kathleen and her two beautiful daughters visited the Sundance Vacations’ office in Wilkes-Barre, PA to pick up the fabulous prize from Administrative Assistant, Pam Fantaskey. Rumor has it that the girls were headed to Toys R US with Mom’s winnings! What a great way to kick off the weekend!

According to Executive Travel Magazine, in a 100-passenger flight at least 5 people have a cold or the flu. During the flu months, the number of ill could double or triple! How do you know if there was a sick person in your seat on the previous flight? The problem is you have no way of knowing. So please take some precautions while flying all year long. Sundance Vacations doesn’t want its travelers to get sick. Executive travel suggested bringing hand sanitizer. Putting it on before and after the flight will certainly improve your chances of not getting sick. Just remember to have only a 3 oz. container of hand sanitizer.
Another shocking study, reported by Executive Travel, revealed that some airline blankets are not washed for 5 to 30 days. For example, if a carrier is on a 30 day cycle for blanket washing and that airline has 6 flights back and forth per day, the blanket would have been used 180 times!
The likelihood that there were about 5 people on the last flight that were sick and the possibility that your blanket wasn’t washed in over a week is pretty high. So remember to pack a lightweight blanket or scarf in your carry-on bag along with a 3 oz. hand sanitizer in a clear plastic bag.

Well, a new company, Traxo, based in Dallas, Tx, gathers all of your travel information from the past 18 months and rates you by placing you into categories ranging from Conquistador (the highest) to a Trekker (the lowest). Traxo gives points to travelers for miles flown, miles in a car, where in the world you went, etc. – creating the Traxo Travel Score. This score is updated daily and can be viewed on your Traxo profile. You can also share your Travel Score with friends on Facebook and Twitter! Here is the best part about Traxo: they give away free certificates to users (depending on how many travel points you have)! The certificates usually count towards magazine subscriptions or car rentals. The top 1% of Traxo users, who are the Conquistadors, reap benefits ranging from 2 round trip tickets to Africa to 20-inch Briggs and Riley Baseline carry-on bags. However, there are only 5 of the bags and 1 pair of tickets, so only 6 users will receive these “elite perks.” Although the company is short on benefits, the site certainly gives you “bragging rights” in the form of your current status on Traxo!

Every trip to the airport you see that one person who is drudging along weighed down by their massive carry on. Follow these tips when packing your bags
1. First decide if you are carrying a laptop, if you are choose a bag that can easily carry the weight.
2. Don’t overload on books.
3. Make sure to have a magazine when you get reading fatigue
4. iPod, iPad, or iPhone, some method of music and games
5. Don’t forget your headphones!
6. Socks are a must, airplanes are usually kept chilly, and you wont want to walk through security barefoot, ewh.
7. Even if your destination is hot I reccomemd pants and a sweater for the flight
8. Snacks, you never know how long you will sit on the runway
9. Journal, I know its old fashioned but when all your gadgets are dead you can channel your thoughts into a journal
10. Gum is a necessity for me, after a long flight a burst of minty gum is just what I need.
